History of the activity
Our grape and wine production has the longest written history and the tradition of almost 800 years. It came to life with the building of the medieval Cistercite cellar in 1232, which continues to live to its fullest even today.
Conquerors and owners of the cellars changed throughout the times, but the wine tradition of the cellar and the Kutjevo region has been preserved.
In the late 19th century the then owners, the Turković family, expanded the cellar and planted new vineyards. From 1948 to 1983 the wine cellar was managed by chief oenologist Mr Ivan Jambrović, a visionary who turned Kutjevo into a contemporary company of modern structure.
In 2003, after it was privatized, the wine production of Kutjevo gained a new momentum; new vineyards were planted and our foreign marketing was taken more seriously. Kutjevo and its wines have thus become one of the symbols of the Croatian continental wine culture.
